At the 1902 Show there were half and one mile handicap bicycle races and half and one mile scratch races. There was also a motorcycle race for ½ to 2hp machines.
The Lincolnshire Standard of 11th November 1960 reported that the Heckington Show was folding because of lack of public support. Eric Kirton, the Show secretary, commented that a 112ft long grandstand was purchased in 1912 and the years after the First World War were the most successful time for the Show. After the Second World War there were eight boom years with Show attendance peaking at 10,000, and in 1948 the Showground was improved and the cycle track was banked.
After a five year absence, the Show resumed in 1965 with new organisers, who put on a very successful meeting, the cycle races were ½ mile handicap for novices, ¼ mile and ½ mile handicaps and open scratch races over ½ and 5 miles.
The sports continued through the 1990s, Russell Downing was a frequent competitor at the Show and a regular race winner. The 2004 Show included the National 8km grass track championship, which was won by Evan Oliphant of Wick, Ben Elliott won the one mile and the Devil and Rick Kennedy won the 400m handicap and the 800m scratch race.
Heckington Show is still held in the grounds of Heckington Hall and in 2025, the grass track races are part of British Cycling's National Endurance and Short Distance Grass Track Leagues.
